Fireside Melody Cushion – Crochet Pattern

Crackling fires create a soothing melody, bringing peace and serenity to your home this festive season. As you enjoy a lazy day, snuggled up by the fireplace with your favourite book and a cup of hot cocoa in hand, reach for the Fireside Melody Cushion for that extra touch of comfort and cosiness…

Perfect as a throw cushion for the couch or bed, the dreamy, oversized design makes this an artistic home accessory for any room! Inspired by the beautiful Danish concept of Hygge, the understated style of this tufted cushion will bring a heartwarming sense of cosy contentment through enjoying the simple things in life… Such as a calm afternoon snuggling in a newly made nest of happiness and fluffy warmth.

For some time now I’ve wanted to design something oversized yet special, so a few weeks back when I noticed that We Are Knitters had released a new wool I was ecstatic to see it was exactly what I’d been looking for all this time! Still buzzing with excitement, I quickly reached out to see if they’d be interested in collaborating on a new design idea I had. It wasn’t long before my balls of wool promptly arrived at my front door, ready to be turned into something unique! Appropriately named the XXXL Wool, each 500g ball is made from 100% Peruvian wool, making it’s extraordinary thickness and quality hard-to-find anywhere else. (They’ve also given me the code “WAKHOPEFULHONEY″ to share with my readers so you can get 15% off your orders!)

Now that I had some gigantic wool, I needed a jumbo hook to go with it… This is where the lovely Sarah from Mama Knows Luxury stepped in with a beautifully made handcrafted 40mm crochet hook (*gasp* have you ever seen anything so magnificent before?)… Never in my life having worked with such a gigantic hook before I was pleasantly surprised by how lightweight and perfectly balanced it was – Which definitely came in handy when working away on this cushion. It is quite rare to find crochet hooks of this size, which is one of the many reasons I’m delighted that she offers them so we can all dabble in extreme crocheting!

Because of the simple stitch design I’d consider this an Easy pattern, but an ambitious beginner may be able to tackle this one as I’ve also included a ton of how-to photos to help make the learning process all the more enjoyable. Ready to embark on this new crochet pattern? You can find the free pattern below, and as always you can purchase an ad-free, printable PDF version here.

FINISHINGS:

Stuff the inside of you cushion before seaming it closed at the back. Note: Keep in mind that with time the cushion will compress a bit with use, so be sure to stuff it to the brim to the prevent losing the lovely circle shape with time.

Once seamed, you’ll create the tufted effect. Cut 1 strand of wool 60cm in length, tying a double knot in the centre of the strand. Hook both ends of the strand through the thickness of the cushion, right in the centre (working from the front, so the ends of the strands are at the back of the cushion).

Tie a double knot at the back of your cushion (as tightly as you can), before rotating the strand so the knot at the back of the cushion (and the loose ends) are neatly tucked within the cushion.
